Perrotin Art Basel, Miami Beach
Perrotin is pleased to return to Art Basel Miami Beach with a series of special presentations by Japanese artists Mr. and Takashi Murakami, as well as Miami-raised, New York-based artist Daniel Arsham. Following Murakami’s major retrospective exhibition at Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong and Mr.’s solo exhibition at How Art Museum in Shanghai, the artists will each debut a new series of paintings in nested presentations.
In the booth’s entryway, Daniel Arsham will present an entirely new body of work from his Fictional Archaeology series. In Bronze Stainless Steel Venus Italica Bust (2021), Arsham debuts a never-before-seen technique that blends eroded bronze with stainless steel. Also on view will be Eroded Porsche 911 (2021), a to-scale model car which has been precisely recast, replicating every inch of the exterior body and interior cabin, and then imbued with the artist’s signature crystalized erosion.
Acting as a centerpiece, the gallery will debut a new installation by Maurizio Cattelan, composed of two new works which are an extension of his Ghost series. Concurrently, the artist presents his first solo exhibition in China at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing. Additionally, we will highlight works from new artists to the gallery — Cristina BanBan, Kathia St. Hilaire, and Tavares Strachan. In Miami, St. Hilaire will unveil her first public art commission, which is a 24 × 30 foot mural that will hang above a facade in Miami’s downtown, alongside a new work at Perrotin’s booth.
Perrotin will also display for the first time Canadian artist Jason Boyd Kinsella, ahead of his solo exhibition at Perrotin Matignon in Paris in Spring 2022. Fascinated by the complexity of human psychology, Kinsella breaks down the personality traits of his characters into distinct geometric building blocks whose shape, color and size define their individuality.
Finally, we will showcase a selection of works by artists on our roster, including Iván Argote, Mathilde Denize, Jens Fänge, Bernard Frize, Thilo Heinzmann, John Henderson, Leslie Hewitt, JR, Izumi Kato, Gabriel de la Mora, Danielle Orchard, Jean-Michel Othoniel, GaHee Park, Paola Pivi, Gabriel Rico, Josh Sperling, as well as the estates of Hans Hartung, Georges Mathieu, and Jesús Rafael Soto.
